Affiliate Disclosure
Federal Trade Commission rules (16 CFR § 255) require that publishers clearly disclose material connections with retailers whose products they recommend. This page tells you exactly how Chambered makes money, which retailers pay us, and what that means for the content you read.
The short version
Some outbound links on Chambered — specifically those pointing to firearms retailers such as guns.com and (as we onboard them) other AvantLink / Impact / direct-brand partners — carry an affiliate tracking parameter. If you click one of those links and later make a purchase, Chambered may earn a commission from the retailer. You pay nothing extra. The commission comes out of the retailer’s marketing budget.
How to spot an affiliate link
On product cards in our builder and on the “Best matches at guns.com” grid, outbound links go to the retailer’s site with a tracking parameter appended (e.g. ?ref=chambered or a network-specific token). Every such link opens in a new tab and is marked rel=“sponsored” per Google’s publisher guidelines. Any link that does not carry a tracking parameter (e.g. links to state statutes, LegiScan bills, Wikimedia sources) is not an affiliate link.
Current commercial relationships
- guns.com — Chambered links to guns.com search results and specific model pages from the builder. When configured with an affiliate ID, commissions are paid on completed purchases per guns.com’s affiliate terms.
- Retailer / manufacturer direct programs — as we onboard additional retailers (Palmetto State Armory, Brownells, MidwayUSA, Aero Precision, etc., typically via AvantLink), those will be added here.
This list is updated whenever a new relationship goes live.
What affiliate compensation does NOT do
- It does not change our compliance content. No retailer pays for placement in a state-law summary, a fact citation, or a legislative bill entry. Legal accuracy is non-negotiable.
- It does not change product ordering by payout. Products surfaced in the builder are ranked by relevance to the user’s selected platform, not by commission rate.
- It does not gate content. Every compliance, education, and comparison page on Chambered is fully accessible without clicking a single affiliate link.
- It does not identify you to the retailer. We don’t share your account, email, or build history with any retailer. The retailer only sees the standard referral token in the URL you clicked, plus whatever cookies their own site sets when you land there.
Amazon Associates disclosure
Chambered is not currently an Amazon Associate. Amazon prohibits direct promotion of firearms and ammunition; when we link to books, safes, cleaning supplies, or other non-restricted categories on Amazon in the future, this section will be updated to include the required disclosure language.
How to opt out of the tracking
If you prefer not to trigger an affiliate cookie, you can (a) copy the retailer name into your browser search bar and navigate directly to their site instead of clicking our link, or (b) use a browser extension that strips referral parameters. Doing so costs you nothing and costs us nothing — the content on Chambered remains free either way.
Questions or corrections
If you spot an affiliate link that’s not marked, or a relationship missing from the list above, please tell us via the contact page. We take FTC compliance seriously.
